Non-Discrimination Policy
SCOUTING’S COMMITMENT TO ITS YOUTH MEMBERS, LEADERS, EMPLOYEES, AND THE COMMUNITY WITH REGARD TO RACE, ETHNICITY, RELIGIOUS BELIEFS, ABILITY, AND SEXUAL ORIENTATION.
WHEREAS, Troop 692 seeks to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scouts Oath and Law, to fulfill our mission of positive youth development, and to enhance the quality of life in our communities – all in partnership with a diverse and talented pool of adult volunteers.
WHEREAS, for more than 100 years, Scouting has brought together individuals and organizations of widely different backgrounds and beliefs on behalf of bettering our young people. Troop 692 continues this tradition in our second century with our inclusive practices.
WHEREAS, Scouting’s most powerful mission is to provide the opportunity for youth to associate with leaders, who, by example and other means, encourage positive mental, physical, ethical, and character development in youth, and whose leadership and support will help strengthen the ability of all parents to successfully raise their children. All children need role models, and the adult leadership should reflect the diversity found in the world today and in the youth of the program.
WHEREAS, Troop 692 and Scouting are respectful of human differences and a diversity of beliefs. Among other values, Scouting teaches respect for the beliefs and rights of others through adherence to its Oath and Law. The idea that we should treat other people as we want to be treated ourselves is a core tenet of Scouting and one that is shared by people of all creeds, walks of life, and beliefs.
WHEREAS, Scouting is an American institution and as such it needs to reflect the values of the communities it serves. Parents and chartered organizations must continue to choose their own Scouting leaders, trusting them to select talented adult and to join in holding all leaders accountable for appropriate behavior.
WHEREAS, Troop 692 does not permit its organization to be used as a vehicle to promote any personal, political, social, or other objective that is inconsistent with Scouting’s advocacy for children.
WHEREAS, Troop 692 welcomes people who can help to further Scouting’s mission. Actions and behavior – not identity – are the means by which Scouts and leaders are held to the high standard of community values.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT Troop 692 welcomes members who are willing to live by the Scout Oath and Law, and membership will not be denied on the basis of race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, ability, gender identity, and/or sexual orientation.
